MARY BRECKENRIDGE

Unlike most artists, Mary Breckenridge does not have a great passion for art. She merely uses her artwork to promote and benefit the cause dearest to her heart -- a dignified life for the animals among us.

"Conventional" has nerver described the lifestyle of Mary Breckenridge. As a child, she spent much of her time in the back country, living in tents and traveling via a pack string of horse, while her geologist father mapped the rocks. Later, she traveled with the circus, putting up the big top, and caring for the tigers and elephants. Presently, she, single-handeldly, runs and manages a small animal sancturary which gives permanent refuge to the homeless and hapless creatures. Throughout all these life experiences, animals have been the common thread, the unwavering passion in her life.

What she attempts in her artwork is to take the fleeting moment and distill what is permanent, thus creating for the animals the platform from which they may speak for themselves.
